Wingate High School’s Residential Program guides and supports Navajo scholars in a learning environment conducive to their academic success. We help our students develop into skilled, self-sufficient, responsible citizens within a college preparatory atmosphere. Residential students in grades 9-12 live and learn in college suite-style dormitories where they prepare for life after high school.

Living

Wingate’s residential program instills life skills that meet students’ social, emotional, cultural, spiritual, and educational needs. Our life skills curriculum fosters student success and encourages self–awareness with an emphasis on continued growth. Residential students experience personal development through meaningful engagement and connection. Our residential facility provides opportunities and activities to build positive relationships and healthy lifestyles.

Learning

Residence halls are equipped with residential, counseling, and recreation staff throughout the school year to provide a safe and secure learning environment. Dorms are conveniently located near academic buildings so that students can enjoy various learning resources and student services. Residential services support a holistic approach within a social/emotional/physical learning environment, with roots and treasured depth in Dine language and culture. Parents and guardians are also welcome to support their child’s success through participation in staff conferences, meetings, training, and school activities.

Ho’zhoo’go Iina’ (Living in Harmony) Counseling Program

Residential staff values individual perspectives and recognizes student diversity. The counseling team meets with students individually and/or in groups. Many students develop their multicultural activities, such as Native American Clubs, cultural singing groups, and social dancing. Our staff encourages students’ families to join in scheduled festivities, including Ke’ (clanship), Culture and Drugs Don’t Mix, One Circle Foundation, SAP (Student Assistance Program), and SOAR (Self, Others, Align, Responsibility) curricula to preserve the identity passed down from our ancestors.
