Student Life at Wingate High School

Wingate High School provides a safe and healthy learning environment for students to continue growing, developing and reaching new academic heights. Student life includes various programs that serve the entire well-being of the student. WHS offers individualized academic services, social-emotional teaching, language/cultural education and athletics.

Afterschool Homework Support/Tutoring

Students seeking additional help with their classwork or homework can make arrangements with specific teachers or staff members. Staying after school to get support from our tutors helps a student to keep pace with classmates and stay on track to advance and graduate.

High School Credit Recovery and After School Program

Students can earn any missing credits they need by registering for computer-assisted credit recovery classes. After students have registered with their teachers, counselors or administration, they may complete the required coursework at their own pace.

Mentoring Class

All WHS students are enrolled in mentoring. Mentors work with students in a social-emotional curriculum and support students’ mental health by providing any early and crisis intervention needs. Teachers provide guidance to students, track their attendance, support behavior management, and review the academic performance of the students assigned to them.

Summer School

Students can enroll in summer school if necessary. Any student who attends daily summer school classes can earn up to one credit. Summer school may also offer classes to provide students with an opportunity to retake classes they failed during the school year.

Navajo Language/Culture

Wingate High School teachers and community members provide students many opportunities to express and identify with their Navajo language and culture. Knowledgeable teachers, community members and Tribal leaders share valuable lessons, workshops, traditions and tutorials on Navajo language and culture.

Athletic/PE Programs

Sports competitions and physical education programs develop students’ minds, bodies and spirits. Students stay physically fit, increase confidence and build character throughout their participation. The school community rallies in support of its student-athletes during each sports season. Participation in these activities requires students to uphold good grades and attendance standards.
